Ran a trail half-marathon PR in the Xodus Ultra 4. Great out of the box, with perfect lockdown, ideal forefoot bounce and cushioning, much grippier and faster than the Asics Trabuco Max 3 in wet terrain, and a more breathable upper than their other trail shoes.

“Just ran a new PR on half marathon trail with these bad boys. Fantastic shoe ride out the box.”

At 200 km in the Xodus Ultra 4 with no blisters. It's a little narrower than the Xodus 2 and more cushioned, but has lost a bit of stability. They love it overall, though the stack feels a bit high.

“With my xodus 4 I don’t have problems. They are a little narrow compared to xodus 2.”

After about seven years in Peregrines before switching to the Xodus, they find the Xodus Ultra 4 much more cushioned without overdoing it, and its Vibram Megagrip sole far better on wet rock than earlier Saucony outsoles.

“Much more cushion, but not too much. The v4 sole is Vibram Megagrip and is infinitely better on wet rock than the previous Saucony soles.”

Their Xodus Ultra 4 felt fine on practice runs but was less grippy than their Asics, and slipped on wet leaves on a downhill in a trail half-marathon, causing a fall. Later they got a first-ever toe blister after 16 technical miles, and now prefer the Brooks Cascadia 19 for that terrain.

“I ran a half marathon trail race last week and they completely slipped on wet leaves while I was going downhill, causing me to fall down.”

After a training run and an easy marathon, a longer ultra effort in the Xodus Ultra 4 left both feet numb and in severe pain, with a huge blood blister; it felt like running on concrete and they quit at 75 km. Trying again weeks later, the pain came back within two minutes.

“Both feet went completely numb — I could barely feel them and it honestly felt like they were about to fall off.”
